Climate Smart Communities (CSC) is a multifaceted program by New York State that supports local governments and communities in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, making their communities more resilient to climate change impacts, and promoting a green economy. By participating in the CSC program, communities are demonstrating leadership in climate action, increasing energy security, saving taxpayer dollars, building resiliency to the impacts of extreme weather events, and improving community health and safety.
On August 26th, 2024, the Village of Marcellus resolved to adopt the Climate Smart Communities pledge, which registers the Village for participation into the voluntary program. On January 27th, 2025 the Village formed the Marcellus Climate Smart Community Task Force, which serves as a central body of leadership that promotes and supports climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies within the community and will act as an advisory group to the municipality on any community issues related to climate change. The Task Force consists of local officials and community members. The Task Force is currently working towards achieving Bronze Climate Smart Communities Certification, which will earn the Village statewide recognition and improve the Village’s standing on certain state grant applications. |
